Sudanese Youth Culture Troupe
The Sudanese Youth Culture Troupe is about engaging the Toowoomba Sudanese Youth in their own culture and traditions before these skills are lost. The majority of the youth come from the Dinka tribe in the south of Sudan. The expected outcome is for a professional dance, singing and drumming troupe to emerge in Toowoomba, including Sudanese people with knowledge about how to make drums and costumes, and collect and compile traditional songs.
This project falls within the Arts Queensland criteria of - "developing projects that engage Queenslander in arts and cultural activities".
The project aims to develop a large dance and song troupe (with drumnmers) that can perform on a professional level. The cultural troupe will have been taught to make their own drums and traditional outfits and thereafter will be available to other communities for tuition in drumming and traditional song.
